The Guild of Cornish Celebrants Full Description
We worked for Cornwall Registration Service for a total of nearly 30 years between us covering the registration of all life events, including conducting over two thousand legal marriage and civil partnership ceremonies. After a re-organisation in 2014, we set up The Guild of Cornish Celebrants to provide a more bespoke offering for ceremonies free of any legal restrictions. With a wealth of experience of dealing with people at key and emotional times of life's journey, we pride ourselves on our empathetic outlook and ability to adapt to any circumstances as they unfold. We are delighted to be South West Regional winners in the Celebrant Category for The Wedding Industry Awards 2018 and 2019. We are also happy to travel across the border into Devon for your ceremony. Our aim is to ensure that the ceremony takes centre stage for the day, it truly is “your ceremony, your way”. We work with you to include elements such as handfasting, “tying the knot”, sand ceremony rituals, songs or religious readings or anything else that you feel will enhance your celebration. We love to conduct ceremonies in the wonderful locations in our beautiful county, from beaches and cliffs, to moorland and woodland glades, river banks and open fields it is your choice. When you book us you can be assured that we have the time to talk to you about your vision and to craft a ceremony that fits you both perfectly, and on the day - we are yours for as long as you need us, we only book one wedding per celebrant per day. As the popularity of celebrant led celebrations has grown we have taken the decision to affiliate other celebrants who share our ethos of quality and client centred focus. We are delighted that this enables us to offer more couples the chance for a unique and bespoke ceremony and the qulaity of our offering is assured.

Personal Message from the Manager

Name of Wedding Contact: Nicola and Denise
We would love to help you celebrate your ceremony. Its so easy to lose sight of the ceremony in the excitement of choosing a venue, the dress, suit, caterer, florist – but the ceremony – that heart stopping moment when you look into each others eyes and pledge your love, deserves to be at the centre of your day. After getting to know you both and talking with you about your vision for the ceremony we can craft a unique and bespoke script which will speak to you both and entrance your guests.

highlight of our day!
Denise, We simply can't thank you enough for performing such a beautiful wedding ceremony for us. It genuinely was the highlight of our day! Your calm and caring nature really put us at ease (and you can't ask for more than that when wearing a Harris Tweed suit during a heatwave). So many of our guests commented on how personal and thoughtful the ceremony was. Some were even convinced that Sean and I had known you for years! That comment really is testament to the time you put into making sure you got to know the both of us to really well to make the ceremony as personal as possible. You became a friend to us during a truly horrendous time for my family in the months running up to the wedding and we can't thank you enough for that. In light of everything that had happened you made last minute changes to our ceremony to ensure that everything remained respectful and appropriate. So thank you again Denise, and to Nicola for great moral support and crowd control during the day. We wish you both all the very best of luck and have no doubt that your business will continue to leap from strength to strength. Best wishes, Tom and Sean xxx

We loved working with you
Hi Denise, Wanted to share a HUUUUGE thank you for conducting such an incredible, personal and memorable ceremony. It couldn’t have gone more perfectly, and we have had so many comments from guests about how personal it was and how well suited to us as a couple! We barely made a tweak from your first draft, you captured everything so well. Your style was perfectly natural and so calm and funny during the random bits which didn’t go quite so to plan! We loved working with you from our very first confused enquiries about Australia and legal ceremonies, to meeting Nicola last year and you this year, to your final Cornish Well Wishing on the day! Thank you thank you thank you!

the most perfect day!
I can't thank you enough for making our wedding ceremony so special and memorable. So many people said it was the nicest wedding they'd ever been to! It was lovely to be able to tailor it to suit our needs and tastes, so that the ceremony was truly a reflection of our personalities. It really was the most perfect day! Xx

The ceremony was full of emotion
Thank you Denise and Nicola for all your hard work in making our wedding a celebration which exceeded all our expectations! Denise made it a relaxed and simple process from the first time we made contact via emails as we live in Australia and it was wonderful to work with her. She allowed us plenty of input into the planning of the ceremony, as well as guidance into what works well. The ceremony was full of emotion and many guests told us it was the best wedding they had been to. The Cornish hand fasting was such a wonderful addition. Thank you also for the keepsake copy of our ceremony, such a thoughtful gesture. I can't thank you enough for doing a sun dance with grandad....it was such a sunny and beautiful day compared to the rest of September. We truly lucked out! And we are so happy that you played such an integral part in our wedding. Emma-Kate and Chris X

laughter and the joy
Amy Potter recommends Cornish Celebrants. 22 November 2018 · Nicola and Denise are some of the most fantastic humans I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with. I hired their services for my small and intimate wedding of just 10 people at Hotel Endsleigh, and Nicola performed a breathtaking ceremony for myself,my husband and the guests. Nicola was gently-spoken and soothing to listen to, which leant well to the eloquent script of our ceremony. Thank you Nicola and Denise for all of your collective help and for executing our ceremony so beautifully. We will never ever forget the laughter and the joy you brought us. 🧡

The ceremony was perfect
We are so grateful we had Nicola conduct our ceremony in the grounds of Enys Gardens, in Penryn. From the minute we met her, Matt and I immediately warmed to Nicola - she is warm, funny, genuine and made us feel like we were part of her own family. The ceremony was perfect - not only were the words bespoke and personal to us - her delivery and facilitation was simply excellent. We had around 105 guests and have been inundated with family and friends who said it was the most beautiful ceremony they had been part of. Matt and I are so grateful to Nicola for her professionalism, love, warmth and genuinely authentic ceremony - we couldn’t have asked for more, even if it was from a member of our own family or close friend. A heartfelt thank you Nicola. X

truly happy, beautiful and meaningful ceremony
Nicola helped us create a perfect ceremony for our wedding day on 29 April. We decided to make our own vows which were very personal to us. Nicola put our ceremony together incorporating these and the result was truly happy, beautiful and meaningful but with the formality befitting a wedding service which we wished to retain. Nicola offered useful advice and suggestions for us to consider as a part of our ceremony which was very helpful. Our entire experience of planning our ceremony with Nicola was hugely enjoyable and I would suggest and recommend the Celebrants' ceremonies to anyone considering marriage. Thank you so much for our very wonderful day, complete with laughter and maybe a few happy tears xx

We’re eternally grateful.
We traveled to the UK from Kentucky, USA, for our wedding ceremony, and we are so glad we did. From our first FaceTime session with Nicola, when she made us laugh and eased our nerves, we knew we made the right decision. She helped us prepare our vows over the past couple months and even spent a day scouting the perfect location and sending us pictures. She made our ceremony personal, funny, and heartwarming just like we wanted. We cannot praise her enough. Thank you for making our day the best it could be, Nicola! We’re eternally grateful.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

So many - but the weddings where we are immersed in nature, on the beach, clifftops or in a woodland glade are especial favourites. We love including family (and pets) to join in, one of the most memorable was when a great granddad of the bride did a mini speech just before their vows - not a dry eye left amongst the guests.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Engaging, friendly, professional, fun, and a truly safe pair of hands!

What about your business are you most proud of?

Building it up from nothing and seeing it grow, and all the wonderful reviews from our couples and families.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Stay true to yourselves, everything about the day should speak to your hearts.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Apart from the inclusion of personal heartfelt vows, it has to be the inclusion of family and friends (and pets!) in the ceremony.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Initial contact by phone or email, then further consultation by personal meeting or Skype/FaceTime meeting. Once the deposit is paid we send some ceremony suggestions, outline of rituals, a fact finding questionnaire, our T&C's and booking forms. Communication is key and we are happy to meet up, or phone/Skype throughout the process. We start the writing process about 6 weeks before the date of the ceremony to ensure that the content remains fresh and relevant. We always arrive at the venue at least an hour before the time the ceremony is due to start and leave when our part has been played.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve been asked to plan?

Location finding for couples from abroad, often they want a typically Cornish view - sea, cliffs, ruined tin mines, and sometimes ask if we can find out where they are filming Poldark so they can have pictures with the cast!

How do you ensure a stress-free wedding?

It is a stressful time, brides and grooms want a perfect day. We are prepared - we have copies of all readings/poems/song lyrics/vows. We have an emergency kit of safety pins, string, plasters, ribbons, tissues, (lots of tissues), pens, plastic bags and lots else besides - the kit grows every year! With our experience of dealing with people at key life events we are adept at reading situations and defusing potential problems.

What do you love most about your job?

Don't panic! Keep everything in perspective. Everyone will remember the look on faces when you say your vows to each other - they will not remember that the ribbons on the table weren't the exact shade of your flowers.

What is your favourite moment at a wedding?

There are two - when the couple first see each other as they enter the ceremony - and as they look into each others eyes as they say their vows!
