The remnants of a medieval royal palace in Coventry city centre, the gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor is at the heart of the city on New Union Street. The magnificent timber building is a key piece of Coventry's rich and important heritage. Previously the only unfortified royal palace outside of London, Cheylesmore Manor is now used as a stunning ceremony venue. The building we know today is, in fact, only the gatehouse and parts of two cross wings to the original manor house. The Manor House houses three beautiful ceremony rooms: The Queen Isabella Room, The Black Prince Room and the Library Room. We offer wedding ceremonies, civil partnership, renewal of vows, commitment, naming and citizenship ceremonies. We have a choice of ceremonies available including a bespoke package. Our beautiful ceremony.

We could not recommend Cheylesmore Manor House enough, from requesting a visit to look around the different rooms to the day of our wedding everyone was amazing. Communication between ourselves and the ceremony coordinators were flawless and I cannot thank Kieron enough for arranging for us to have our ceremony streamed at such late notice! He really pulled that off for us which we will be forever grateful for. Our registrar on the day took the time to speak with my husband before the ceremony and was very personable which was lovely, she made us both feel very comfortable and welcomed. The Black Prince room was perfect for our ceremony, beautiful and stunning for our intimate wedding, our guests commented how beautiful it was afterwards. We really feel you understood us and that we wanted our ceremony to be special, romantic but also fun and not so serious. Thank you for being apart of the best day of our lives 🤍

The Queen Isabella room is stunning, intimate and beautifully decorated. We chose Coventry Registration district because it has the most wonderful lookimg rooms of any register office in the UK. The Registrars and staff were very friendly and put us at ease.

Amazing day, beautiful venue but not listened to.

Our wedding was beautiful, the building is stunning, with interesting history, parking, lift and stair access, the works. The price is also much lower than some other venues so in that respect the venue was also a win. In the lead up we had meetings, emails and phone calls confirming details about what we wanted for our wedding ceremony. A big aspect of this is that I walked myself down the aisle (black prince room), and was not being given away by anyone. I love my Dad, who was there on the big day, I just don't like what it represents so I chose not to include than traditional in our ceremony (July 2024). However, during the ceremony the registrar still asked who is giving me away, and I said "no one", and the ceremony coordinator piped up and said that I "changed my mind". I had been clear and consistent throughout the whole process, and the ceremony coordinator kept disagreeing with different things I wanted to do, like this and not having bridesmaids because it was a small ceremony. So this means that despite the multiple times I said, as the bride and the paying customer, that I was not being given away, the ceremony coordinator still write down that I did. This was really frustrating because the ceremony was beautiful otherwise. The staff should not let their personal opinions and preferences affect their job. Also at one point the registrar forgot my name and just called me bride which I thought was rude. Overall though our wedding was 10/10, it was romantic and beautiful, I just feel like it's only fair to share these details. If you like the building, and especially if you're daunted by the prices at other venues then definitely give this one a visit.

Thank you for your feedback. We are extremely sorry for any upset this caused. I would like to clarify that it was not the ceremony co-ordinator on the day as she is not always present at ceremonies, it was in fact our usher who is there to greet couples for their special day. As a result of your feedback we have ensured that there is more information given to the usher with a couples wishes to avoid any confusion and upset. Many congratulations to you both x

The most beautiful bespoke ceremony we could have wished for.

Our ceremony was absolutely perfect. All of the staff involved were so genuine and that made such a difference for us. From the moment we arrived until we left they were a perfect balance of attentive but not overwhelming. The registrar even admitted to getting emotional with us! 🥰 The coordinator's are very good with responding to emails to get every detail right. Thank you all for being so lovely. I will 100% recommend Cheylesmore Manor House (Black Prince Room) to anyone thinking of getting married. The room was so beautiful - we knew as soon as we saw photographs that it was the one, nevermind the impact it has in person. The ceremony was very intimate at 50 guest capacity and with the option to write our own pledges, readings and hand fasting blessing. A massive bonus was that the whole thing completely affordable. All our guests were amazed. I honestly couldn't be happier ☺️

The most magical experience

This would have to be the extensive history that belongs to Cheylesmore Manor House, Dating back to 1250 the Manor belonged to Queen Isabella who was the wife of Edward the II and in 1320 she passed to her Grandson, Edward the Black Prince. The original gatehouse to the manor has survived and was once the only unfortified royal palace in England. Cheylesmore Manor is the oldest building in Britain to be used for such purpose.
