We had the most fantastic day, everything went brilliantly. In the run up to our wedding we can honestly say that Abbie was fantastic, always on the end of the phone or an email answering all questions and giving great advice. The venue is beautiful, full of history. Thank you to Abbie and staff from the Guildhall

FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at Guildhall, Exeter?

This is such a tricky one as every wedding is so special and unique, I think helping couples to get married through the pandemic has been very special and humbling, true love really does conquer all!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Try not to worry, as hard as it may be! Everything will come together in the end, and the little things will all fall into place - enjoy the build-up!

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

The song choices, and the readings always so varied and often unexpected but knowing that each means so much to the couple is wonderful.

Describe Guildhall, Exeter in 5 adjectives

Historic, Welcoming, Vibrant, Warm, Majestic

Where’s the best photo spot at Guildhall, Exeter?

The Door into the Great Hall provides a great backdrop for wedding photo's, but there are so many wonderful features of the building that lend themselves perfectly to unique and romantic photographic opportunities. One of my other favourites is the balcony in our Great Hall, you can get some lovely pictures of all your guests looking up at yourselves waving down. This year we are looking forward to our ancient prison cells at the back of the building be accessed for some really fun photos!

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at Guildhall, Exeter?

Every guest is a celebrity in our eyes!

What’s your favourite canapé?

Goats cheese with pear .

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

A sneaky hand made chocolate truffle - well if hotels can leave one on the pillow it must be ok?

What is Guildhall, Exeter most unique feature?

The Building itself! The Guildhall is nearly 900 years old and as soon as you walk under it's granite portico and step through the peacock oak door, the magical majesty of it's rich history envelops you warmly. But if I have to be pushed, the Lord Mayor's Parlour, grandly located in the portico wing, with the Lord Mayors carved oak desk taking centre stage is quite the head turner. With special permission we do allow our Couples a photo opportunity there!

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Ensuring each couple can express their individuality in their wedding plans. We are so flexible as we want to ensure every wedding is about the couple, not the venue, not the staff, we are exceptionally discreet on the day, allowing our couples, their family and friends, to feel completely at home and relaxed to enjoy such a momentous occasion. The Mace Sergeants of Exeter's Historic Guildhall are so proud of the work they do, nothing is too much trouble. Our couples are always our focus and priority.
