Description

**FULLY BOOKED FOR 2024** Hosting just 12 weddings a year (from March to October) ensures that we give you our full attention, and keeps our venue more special than anywhere else in Scotland. Murthly Castle, the Chapel of St. Anthony the Eremite, the Douglas fir woodland, and the walled garden are exclusively yours, not only on your wedding day but also during the set-up period. You have complete freedom of choice when it comes to suppliers, meaning that you can create a wedding day entirely to your taste. We can host religious, humanist and civil wedding ceremonies in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. The chapel interior often draws gasps of admiration from first-time visitors, while some couples choose to get married in our truly spectacular Douglas fir avenue. Receptions can take place in the castle or the extensive walled garden. Murthly Castle is a private family home, so there are never any other events or visitors to distract us from your wedding. Relax in the knowledge that you have plenty of time to set up for your big day, with our help and advice at hand whenever you need it.

Fantastic Wedding at Murthly
We celebrated our wedding at Murthly Estate on 18/7/24 and had the most fantastic day. Everything was perfect from start to finish and the grounds and gardens all looked beautiful. The chapel is truly stunning and there are some fantastic locations around the estate for wedding photos. Thomas could not have been more accommodating and helpful, and really made the experience a breeze. We would definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking to celebrate their wedding somewhere really special.

Perfect
We would wholeheartedly recommend the Murthly Estate for your wedding. The estate (and chapel) is incredibly beautiful and provides the wow factor your guests will be looking for! Thomas was helpful and flexible throughout - during the planning phase, on the day itself, and cleaning up afterwards.

"Feels like a film set"
We had an incredible wedding at Murthly Estate for 120 of our friends and family. I may be slightly biased, but I think this is the best wedding venue in the UK. All of our guests spent the day saying how amazing the location was, and they weren't wrong. As you drive up the very long drive lined by incredibly tall trees, you realise this is a truly special place. With deer grazing on the side of the track and oystercatchers hopping on walls, it’s totally surrounded by nature. What you find at the end of the drive is an awe-inspiring venue that leaves you wanting to have three weddings so that you can use all the amazing settings. From the great rooms of the castle, the absolutely stunning chapel, the Douglas fir wood, and the beautiful walled garden, you are absolutely spoilt for choice. If the venue couldn't get any better, you meet Thomas, whose laid-back attitude automatically puts you at ease and makes you feel like the estate is yours for a few days. Nothing was ever too much and he was always on hand if you needed him, even lending me his sgian dubh when I left mine at home. One thing to note is that this is a totally dry hire venue, so you will have to bring in everything including the kitchen sink (especially if you’re having a marquee wedding), but that little bit of extra effort enables you to tailor the whole day to be your own. It's also important to note that although Thomas has recommended suppliers, he doesn't put you under any pressure to use them, although I would suggest seriously considering them because some of our "off piste" hires didn't work out as well as the recommended ones. Ultimately, if you want a day that everyone will remember for years to come, you should definitely have your wedding at Murthly Estate.
Response from the venue
Thank you for giving us such lovely feedback. The whole day was a joy from start to finish and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time getting to know you and your wedding party guests.

Millions of happy and fond memories
We have millions of happy and fond memories from the day/weekend. You were a pleasure to talk to and plan all the celebrations with. Some of our highlights: • the rehearsal dinner with the roaring fire inside the castle • the grand chapel for our ceremony • the long walk for Flora to the aisle with the bagpiper leading them • the beautiful drive into the estate, the grounds and the tall trees • the gorgeous setting for the dinner and dancing in the evening 🥹😀

The best wedding venue
We got married at Murthly Estate in September, we had the best day of our lives. The venue is absolutely beautiful, all of our guests were blown away! Picking Murthly allowed us the freedom to design our day exactly the way we wanted. Thomas was really helpful giving us a list of suppliers and he was always contactable! He was there on the day as well if we needed anything. Having the venue for 4 days was a big bonus giving us plenty time to set up and tidy up the day after!

A hidden gem In Perthshire
We had our outdoor ceremony and marquee wedding in June 2022 at Murthly Castle for 95 guests. It was everything that we could have imagined and more. The historic venue itself is truly stunning and unique, it tied in perfectly with our vision of having an outdoor garden party wedding but had the opportunity to use the stunning chapel and indoor halls if Scotland decided to be Scotland and rain in June…. It didn’t! It was such a pleasure having Thomas the owners support before the day, helping to coordinate suppliers the week of the wedding, which was extremely helpful for a stressed bride and on the day was on hand to ensure the day ran smoothly from a distance. Initially, our wedding had some early set-backs and a change of date happened due to the pandemic, but Thomas was very understanding and accommodating and supported us fully in our endeavours to get things back-on-track despite a postponement and lots of moving parts in suppliers. The day itself went seamlessly and was relaxed. Thomas was on hand to deal with any issues and truly was a great support to all. Our guests commented on what a beautiful venue and a hidden gem Murthly was. The gardens especially gave us room to utilise lots of different areas and everyone had a fantastic time. Thanks again to Thomas.

My favourite wedding venue
Murthly Castle ticks all the boxes to make the perfect wedding venue. It helps me as a photographer get lovely pictures. With beautiful secluded grounds, a unique private chapel, a gorgeous walled garden for a marquee, easy access, versatility for different sized events, privacy but with lots of space and a host who really cares for his clients I really love being a wedding photographer at Murthly.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at Murthly Estate?

We had a Scottish - Brazilian wedding not long ago. The couple got married in the Douglas fir woodland avenue on a beautiful summer's day, and all the Brazilian men wore kilts. The guests said it was like being at Downton Abbey!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Don't buy or organise everything that bridal magazines tell you to - keep it simple and remember that the real focus of the day is the wedding ceremony itself.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

A Hobbit themed wedding, with nearly all the music played being from the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films, and a hand-engraved sign at the marquee reading 'No Admittance except on party business'.

Describe Murthly Estate in 5 adjectives

Private, spacious, tranquil, relaxing, happy!

Where’s the best photo spot at Murthly Estate?

Our wedding parties love being photographed on the double sweep of stairs in front of the castle. Couples love being photographed in the yew avenue, with the sun slanting through the trees.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at Murthly Estate?

Yes, but we don't tell , because celebrities have a right to privacy at a private party.

What’s your favourite canapé?

I don't get to eat the canapés - they're for the wedding guests!

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

These days, going to bed!

What is Murthly Estate most unique feature?

The chapel is without equal, as is the designed landscape with its very tall, otherwordly trees.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

It's a properly private venue, run in a very personal way, and couples can customise nearly aspect of their day. That's what attracts people to get married here.
