I'm Niall, the founder and filmmaker of Vow Videos. As you've read above, I have a penchant for making films. I absolutely love them! From directing Xmas ads, or working with Aardman, to making a documentary in Africa, it's the best job in the world. But I especially love to film weddings. Capturing the biggest day of a couple's lives and bringing it to life is a huge responsibility. But creating a video like that is incredibly life affirming!

Vow Video Full Description
Hello! I'm a Bristol wedding videographer, creating wedding films that last a lifetime.
I've been making films since 2012 - starting on a little DSLR camera, creating skits, fake adverts and films exploring with friends. What started out as a hobby, turned into something more, and I was chosen by the British Film Institute (BFI) to take part in their documentary filmmaking course. This ignited my passion for filmmaking, and I've gone on to make many, many films to this date.
I've directed television commercials for well known high-street brands, documented the an Olympic-led rowing expedition along the Zambezi river in Mozambique, created Instagram content for some of the UKs best well-known companies, and finally, (but most importantly!), I've filmed some beautiful weddings.
While I'm proud of all of the projects I've worked on, I find that wedding videography is a truly life affirming form of filmmaking. After delivering final films to couples, one of the most common replies are: 'We laughed, and we cried'. What an amazing reaction to a film that you've made. It fills me with joy, filling you with joy. And this is what I love about this job. Wedding films are truly rewarding - there's nothing quite like capturing the biggest day in a couples life, and creating a film that will last them a lifetime. It will never get old, and it's always a pleasure.

What is your most memorable wedding?
My most memorable wedding was at Rushpool Hall in Yorkshire. The venue was absolutely gorgeous, and the Groom's father created a mini-golf course himself for the guests!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Natural, authentic, genuine, real, moving.
What about your business are you most proud of?
This is the best job in the world because of the response from clients and the pure joy from something that you've made specifically for them.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
For booking video, research, and find your happy medium: style is important, do you want someone with a modern style, full of flashy transitions, or do you want a more timeless and traditional edit? Find the style that's right for you, and then find the right videographer for your budget!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
At a wedding at The Mount Without in Bristol, the guests had a wooden peg with a cut-out of either the Groom's face, or the Bride's face to show who they're connected to. How lovely, and a great conversation starter!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
My process with couples is simple and easy - consultation video calls, getting to know each other and getting the vision for the film aligned, before capturing absolutely everything humanely possible on the day. Then, it's straight into post production, where the couple are sent updates to let them know how the edit is going, and roughly when final films will be with them for.
What is the most exciting thing you have caught on camera?
That absolutely has to to be when the Bride and her bridesmaid after the first dance suddenly stormed the dance floor and broke out into a choreographed 5 minute dance to a medley of Disney hits. It was rather show-stopping!
What is the one film you wish you had directed and why?
Free Solo (about Alex Honnold climbing up El Cap in Yosemite with no ropes - yikes!). Any excuse to travel to make films, and document a moment in history is a win with me. What a feeling that must've been to be on the crew!
What is your favourite soundtrack to put to a wedding video?
My philosophy with music in wedding videos is having both 'light and shade'. I feel the best wedding videos should be able to make you laugh, and make you cry within minutes of each other. It should capture the emotion of the day, which is re-experienced as soon as you hit play. So I'm quite a fan of mixing up different tracks and sounds - having one song that's more introspective and slow, played in a minor key, followed by an upbeat, leg moving pop song in a major key. It's what gives you all the feels!
Describe how you got into videography.
I got into filmmaking in my mid-teens, making videos with friends, before taking things slightly more serious after being selected to be in the BFI's Film Academy in Documentary Filmmaking. Since then, my career has been videography and filmmaking, and I've loved every moment of it. Whether it's been working with Aardman, directing Xmas ads, or filming a book launch, I truly enjoy filmmaking, and having a project that I can see through from start to finish.
